Heat and Mass Transfer Analysis Based on Stream-Wise Plasma Heat Knife and Electric Heating Anti-Icing

Ice accretion seriously impairs the aerodynamics performance of the aircraft wing surface. In this paper, the influence of power density and actuator configuration on stream-wise plasma heat knife anti-icing is studied. And the anti-icing performance of two kinds of electric heating film is compared with that of plasma. Through these, the influence of the heat flow direction on the anti-icing efficiency is obtained. The results show that increasing the power density will have a better anti-icing effect when the exposed electrode spacing is 5mm. Modulated ellipsoid ice pieces will appear at the plasma low-temperature area of the leading edge of the NACA0012 airfoil when the energy distribution differs greatly. Similarly, the discontinuously distributed electric heating film will have the formation of modulated slice-shaped ice pieces even if the power density increases, while the electric heating film with uniform heat generation has better anti-icing performance. Supercooled water droplets are most likely to freeze when they reach the leading edge of the airfoil, especially with uneven heating. Before and after spraying water, the average convective heat transfer coefficient of the flow field under plasma actuation is larger than that of electric heating film. It is concluded that plasma anti-icing directly heats the air to form a hot gas film and heats the wall to transfer heat for anti-icing and that the electric heating film conducts heat to the supercooled water droplets through the heating wall
