High-Impact Female Entrepreneurship in Latin America : A Preliminary Analysis

According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor's 2012 survey, Latin America boasts a high degree of female entrepreneurial activity: 15 percent of working age females are engaged in entrepreneurial startups compared to 19 percent of males. However little is known with regards to the opportunities and constraints for innovative female entrepreneurs with growth-oriented businesses in Latin America. By analysing three case studies from Bolivia, Brazil and Colombia, this paper provides insights into the key areas that need to be improved, presents examples of current programs that are being implemented to reduce gendered impediments and provides recommendations for additional measures
