>i>Perestroika:>/i> Possible Variants?
The underestimation of the complexity of the content of >i>perestroika>/i> and the resulting disposition of social forces are, in our view, the main problems of the day. It is commonly believed that the main difficulties confronting >i>perestroika>/i> boil down to the struggle of advocates of democratization and major economic reforms against the conservatives who are deliberately or unconsciously trying to preserve the peremptory administrative system that had developed over the last half-century. Generally speaking, such a characterization is, on the whole, a true reflection of the situation in the long-term historical perspective. But the situation in the less extended future, in the next few years, for example, is more complex. In this time frameâthe one in which real political life in a revolutionary era takes placeâhighly dissimilar variants of development are possible.
