[English Title] Not available [English Abstract] Turkey has been deeply shaken by the two economic crisis which erupted in November 2000 and February 2001, As a result, economic issues have begun to be discussed at great length in all segments of the society. In these discussions, the fact that economics is a social science with a historical background has been generally forgotten. The present outlook of the Turkish society reveals that, ineome inequality has risen to unprecetented levels and has begun to impede the functioning of the "free market economy". Therefore any solution which disregards this fact cannot possibly be useful in getting out of the present crisis. [English Keywords] Not available
