Implementing the Children's Rights Agenda in Kenya : Taking Stock of the Progress, Hurdles and Prospects

Over various epochs of human history, the issue of children's living situations has been constantly highlighted as one warranting special attention. The expected end-result has been the evolution and crystallization of an agenda to protect the rights and welfare of all children. The present article highlights the appalling reality of children in Kenya, with an overwhelming majority of the over 20 million children within the country's jurisdiction facing various forms of socio-economic, cultural, legal and political challenges. Yet Kenya subscribed to the agenda, at both global and regional levels, not forgeting the recent developments in the domestic landscape.
