The aim of this research was to study if the level of education is related to the performance of criminal acts. For which it were surveyed the Persons Privated of Liberty, PPL of the Bellavista Social Rehabilitation Center (CRS) of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, in the period December 2022 to March 2023. The work had three specific objectives, the first two of bibliographic analysis, and the third being a field exploration. In the first specific objective, the determination of the levels of education in Ecuador was conceptually sought, in order to expose the educational reality in our country. In the second objective, the types or levels of formal education that people receive in countries with low crime rates are conceptualized, specifically the educational systems of Finland and New Zealand were conceptualized. In the third objective, it was sought to establish the level of education received by the PPL of the Bellavista Social Rehabilitation Center (CRS) of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. To achieve this objective, two surveys were applied to a sample of 58 PPL, out of a total of 957, between January 30, 2023 and February 7 of the same year. It was found that among the main characteristics in common, with a Cronbach index of 0.99%, is the absence of a university degree. That is, none of the respondents had completed university. On the other hand, there were factors that they also shared, such as family income below the legal salary (0.90), and a desire to excel among those deprived of liberty, shown in the desire to obtain a university degree (0.75), as well as the absence of initial education (from 0 to 3 years) (0.75)It was concluded that there are multiple factors that affect crime and that can be soved with the adaptation and improvement of access to initial and university education. It is recommended to adopt public policies that guarantee access to education to the largest number of people, including PPL
