Informationsgehalt von WES-Daten zur Inflationsprognose : Aussagekraft der Befragungsergebnisse

Die Aufgabe des WES ist es, vierteljährlich ein möglichst aktuelles Bild über die Wirtschaftslage sowie Prognosen für bedeutende Industrie-, Schwellen- und Entwicklungsländer zu liefern. Im Gegensatz zur amtlichen Statistik, die in erster Linie auf quantitativen Informationen aufbaut, werden beim WES überwiegend qualitative Informationen - also subjektive Urteile und Erwartungen von Wirtschaftsexperten - abgefragt. Während amtliche Statistiken auf internationaler Ebene oft nur mit großen Zeitverzögerungen erhältlich sind, zeichnen sich die WES-Umfrageergebnisse durch ihre hohe Aktualität und internationale Vergleichbarkeit aus. Gerade in Ländern, in denen die amtliche Statistik auf einer unsicheren Datenbasis steht, sind die von Wirtschaftsexperten vor Ort abgegebenen Urteile und Erwartungen von besonderer Bedeutung.
