Investigation on National Culture Orientations and Construction Engineering Safety Culture
The safety management practices vary across the nations, industries and organisations. The primary reason for such variance is that the safety management system and practices predominantly reflect its inherent cultural values. Many of the literature reveal that the organisational safety culture is closely associated with its national culture. Hence, the objective is to study the relationship amongst the national culture and prevailing construction safety culture. The research design adopted is cross sectional and co relational as well to find the effect of national culture on prevailing construction safety cultures. The survey questionnaires related to both the concepts were administered in Chennai city, India to get the responses from management/supervisory cadre employees at construction job-sites. Factor analysis were used for extraction of dimensions. Pearson correlation test is performed to examine the relationships amongst the national culture and construction safety culture dimensions revealed the presence of significant positive correlations. Physical work environment factor of safety climate at construction job site is influenced by national cultural orientations of management level employees
