Investment Banking in Philippines

The Philippines is dominated by large business conglomerates whose success has been largely attributed to an underlying assumption that these business families had a financial institution as the backbone for all their diverse business holdings. The lucrative nature of providing financial services has been looked into with a view to understand whether the fundamental assumption is correct. The study has focused especially on the investment banking services of the Philippines to understand current trends, competitive structure and the government support for such services. The study is a working paper that does not conclude on whether there are enough factors to attribute the success of business conglomerates but rather is an industry study on investment banking services and whether the environment is conducive for other players to enter the Philippines investment banking sector
