Knowledge Management Based HR Practices and Three-Dimensional Knowledge Sharing Behavior : Evidence From South Asian Higher Education Institutes

Purpose– Teaching is a profession that constructs all other professions hence, it is pertinent to incessantly motivate and retain the knowledge workers (academicians) of Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) particularly during the COVID pandemic which has forced many HEIs to go cyber. The biggest organizational support which they can have is employee-friendly practices. This study is therefore designed to investigate the impact of knowledge management-based HR practices on three-dimensional knowledge sharing behavior (knowledge collection, knowledge donation, and lurking behavior). Design/methodology/approach– The population comprised of the business school’s academicians of Pakistani Higher Education Institutions. ~237 academicians from top ten business schools were considered as the study sample. Descriptive statistics were performed in SPSS whereas; the maximum likelihood method was used in AMOS, to analyze study hypotheses for inferential statistics. Findings– The findings designate that knowledge management-based HR practices positively impact knowledge collection and knowledge donation behavior. Additionally, knowledge management-based appraisal, and compensation, are negatively associated with academicians’ lurking behavior. Whereas, knowledge management-based recruitment has no impact on lurking behavior. Implications– The results endow the respective authorities of business schools, with practical connotations on how to upkeep academicians’ three-dimensional knowledge sharing behavior by wisely using the knowledge management-based HR practices. Copious commendations were also provided to future researchers to further, look into the anticipated theoretical framework Originality/value– This study is the first in the South Asian context to investigate Knowledge management-based HR practices and three-dimensional knowledge sharing behavior.
