La « démocratie future » de Gurtvich
Georges Gurvitch développa, au cours d’un siècle tumultueux pour le devenir humain, une œuvre marquée par la nécessité d’une révolution sociale afin d’assurer pleinement la liberté humaine. Parallèlement à son travail sociologique, les écrits de Georges Gurvitch furent aussi animés par une pensée politique et juridique qui tenta de développer un idéal démocratique centré sur sa théorie du droit social. La démocratie était, selon lui, étroitement liée à l’idée d’un droit social qui exprimerait le pouvoir politique de chaque groupe de la société, et qui affirmerait toute la complexité de la liberté humaine d’un point de vue individuel et collectif. Cette démocratie pluraliste mènerait ainsi à une société collectiviste centrée sur l’horizontalité politique de l’autogestion – une pensée teintée d’anarchisme sous l’influence de Proudhon – qui pourrait percevoir dans le futur de la démocratie l’établissement de la démocratie participative.
