Lawyer Registration in New York : 2015

This essay finds shortcomings in some New York court rules. 1. A court rule which permits temporary retirement by New York lawyers who are New York judges and justices, and who are United States justices and judges, but prohibits temporary retirement by rank-and-file New York lawyers. 2. A court rule which limits artificially the legal work permitted to permanently-retired New York lawyers. 3. A court rule which requires excessive disclosures by New York lawyers on biennial-registration forms. 4. A court rule which sets a restrictive pro-bono-work requirement for admission to the New York Bar. 5. A court rule which exhorts New York lawyers to donate time and money for the benefit of poor people. 6.
