Le réseau familial
Gokalp Catherine. ? The Extended Family Network. Demographers generally confine their interest to the nuclear family, consisting of parents and children. From the social and economic point of view, however, the extended family consisting in addition of - ancestors, collaterals and close relatives by marriage is important. An enquiry was organized by INED in 1976 to obtain more information about this extended family. This enquiry made it possible to determine the size of the extended family group, consisting of about 20 persons, and about its composition. Information was obtained on the cohesiveness of this extended group; in particular geographical propinquity of close relatives and marital endogamy leading to social cohesiveness were studied.
