Leading contributing institutions to the elite finance journals: affiliation on publication versus current institutional affiliation
This study examines the ranking by institutional affiliation of authors appearing in the six leading finance journals (Financial Management, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and Review of Financial Studies) over the past 25 years (1984-2008). Unlike previous studies that rank schools' appearances in finance journals, this study compares the rankings of schools that appear on the articles at the time of publication versus the ranking of schools based on authors' current institutional affiliation. In a mobile academic marketplace, the schools with faculty appearing most frequently in the leading journals may change over time.
