Les États Pontificaux des origines à la Révolution française
Los Estados Pontificios son claramente identificables desde el papa León el Grande hasta el año 1860, aunque un punto de inflexión significativo se produjo en 1798. El papa León (440-461) sentó las bases de un gobierno patrimonial de la Iglesia. La donación de Constantino al Papa Silvestre es objeto de referencia en este trabajo, así como el descubrimiento por parte de Lorenzo Valla que había sido un documento falsificado durante el reinado de Pipino el Breve. Se indican las sedes, aparte de Roma, donde residieron temporalmente los pontífices. El autor examina el crecimiento del poder papal en la Edad media. Se presta especial atención al Papado de Aviñón. Las guerras de religión de los siglos XVI y XVII y la repercusión de la Revolución francesa en el patrimonio y en los Estados Pontificios son objeto de estudio en este artículo.
