Looking Forward Financial Ratio and Value Analysis (Valor de la firma y razones financieras para el análisis financiero)
Usualmente los textos de finanzas presentan por lo menos un capítulo sobre análisis financiero, entendido como análisis de razones financieras. Se enseñan muchos cursos en análisis financiero y se gasta una enorme cantidad de tiempo en cómo calcular las razones financieras basados en estados financieros históricos. Este tipo de análisis financiero es muy útil para identificar políticas y metas de períodos anteriores. También sirve para evaluar a posteriori, el resultado de una decisión y en general, el resultado de una gestión gerencial. Así mismo, las razones financieras pueden utilizarse como predictores de desempeño de las firmas utilizando algún método apropiado de análisis discriminante. Sin embargo, el examen y análisis de los estados financieros históricos es en cierto modo una autopsia, que no ayuda para tomar buenas decisiones financieras. La función más importante de la gerencia es la creación de valor en la firma. En este escrito presentamos cómo podemos evaluar los resultados de las decisiones antes de que las tomemos, midiendo el cambio en el valor de la firma como consecuencia de la decisión que se planea tomar. También ilustramos las limitaciones que tienen las razones financieras como herramienta para maximizar el valor de la firma.
