Losses in Fiji's 2018 National Elections

Fiji’s 2018 National Elections was narrowly won by the FijiFirst Party (FFP), which formed government with twenty seven seats in Fiji’s fifty one seat parliament. On the other side, Fiji’s opposition was formed by the Social Liberal Democratic Party (SODELPA) and National Federation Party (NFP), who attained twenty one and three seats respectively. This electoral victory was not as convincing as the 2014 national elections when FijiFirst secured thirty two seats, with SODELPA and NFP gaining fifteen and three seats respectively in opposition (in the then fifty seat parliamenti). FijiFirst’s narrow victory does not reconcile with its massive political party financial budget, extensive resources and its party leader’s confident claims of winning all the seats in Fiji’s parliament. As such the paper attempts to highlight most of FijiFirst’s lost votes and its possible factors by discussing and examining the 2014 and 2018 election results
