Magyar etnikai identitás és magyar állami szuverenitás: Történeti adalékok az eredetről, a történeti trendekről és a külső megítélésről = Hungarian Ethnic Identity and the Sovereign Hungarian State: Historical Contribution to the Origin of, Historical Trends and the External Assessments on Hungarian Ethnicity and State Sovereignty

A nemzeti identitás fogalmának meghatározásánál érvényesítettük az oxfordi definíciót. E szerint a nemzeti identitás „egy nemzetnek mint összefüggő egésznek a tudata, amely hagyományokban, kultúrában, nyelvben fejeződik ki”. A nemzet azonban modern jelenség, amely a polgári társadalomhoz, az állampolgársághoz kötött. A premodern időkben etnikai csoportidentitás létezett, amely közösen megerősített hagyományokon, származáson, nyelven és kultúrán alapult. Jelen tanulmány célja, hogy áttekintse a magyar etnikai identitás eredetét és történelmi trendjeit, valamint az etnikai identitásról alkotott külső véleményeket. Ezenkívül áttekintést ad a szuverén magyar állam keletkezéstörténetéről is. Ez elkerülhetetlenül szükséges, mert csak ez jelent hozzájárulást a jelenleg létező intézményes nemzeti identitástípusok közötti viszonyok megértéséhez. = Regarding national identity, the definition given by the Oxford Dictionaries was applied: the sense “of a nation as a cohesive whole, as represented by distinctive traditions, culture and language”. The concept of “nation” is a modern phenomenon connected to the bourgeois society, to citizenship. In the pre-modern times, people reflected on things in terms of ethnic group identity, which was based on common sets of traditions, ancestry, language and culture. The aim of this the paper is to provide an overview of the origin of the Hungarian ethnic group identity, its historical trends in and external views on it, and to outline the rise of the sovereign Hungarian state. These are inevitably necessary because to provide the required background information for understanding the interrelationship between the current types of institutional Hungarian national identities.
