Maintaining Financial Market Stability during COVID-19 Pandemic : A Case Study of the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s Regulatory Responses and Crisis Management Measures

This article provides an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of regulatory measures taken by the US Government to mitigate the negative effects of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) on its economy and financial markets. It focuses on the actions of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) which is in charge of the making and enforcement of capital markets regulations. This article looks at regulatory responses to the previous financial crisis to see if the regulator has learned lessons from the past experience of crisis management. It also considers the difference of the current crisis and assesses the effectiveness of the SEC’s recent regulatory measures, addressing both positive or negative impacts.
