Making a Living after Serving Time? A Preliminary Study on Earning Potential after Incarceration

This study examined the legal income ex-inmates earned in 1986. The mean income was $5496.70. The median Income was $2900.00. Income had a positive skew of 1.62172. Our research hypothesis was that four quarters of employment in 1986 was the biggest factor affecting income (r=.71, p<.05). Recent unemployment duration was the second largest (r=-.34, p<.05). We completed a correlational matrix to test interaction effects. We then completed a multiple regression model evaluating employability, recidivism and incarceration effects. The model predicts the income of mock ex-inmates. Employment was the largest factor (t value=43.334, p< 2e-16). The R Code utilized is provided
