MangoDB : A Database of Mango Varieties and Landraces of the Indian Subcontinent
India is the centre of origin and diversity for mango. The entire nation harbours a wide variability for the crop in terms of fruit size, quality, shape, flowering and growth behaviour etc. It is often very difficult to identify a mango plant to a particular variety. this paper describes the development of an online database to describe the mango landraces in India. The database MangoDB is prepared according to the details in Morphological Descriptors designed by NBPGR New Delhi, India. As of now, the descriptions for nearly 200 varieties are included and the number of accessions are regularly updated. The database has been designed with a user-friendly interface, enabling users to retrieve the information easily. Developed using MySQL as back-end and php as front-end.
