Romanian Abstract: Economia britanică trece printr-o perioadă dificilă, guvernul fiind nevoit să anunțe aplicarea de măsuri severe de austeritate pentru 2011 și 2012 în vederea reducerii deficitului de stat și a datoriei publice. În ultimul raport din aprilie 2011, experții FMI au revizuit în scădere, la 1,75%, pentru a treia oară în ultimul an, estimările cu privire la ritmul PIB estimat pentru 2011, în absența unor date încurajatoare cu privire la șomaj și deficit bugetar. Pe ansamblul anului 2010, ritmul PIB a înregistrat o creştere de 1,3%, după scăderea absolută de 4,9% realizată în 2009, cea mai activă perioadă fiind trimestrele II și III. Potrivit datelor publicate de Biroul Național de Statistică din Londra, în trimestrul IV al anului 2010, ritmul PIB a scăzut cu 0,5% față de trimestrul al III-lea, ca efect principal al condițiilor meteorologice extrem de nefavorabile din decembrie, care au afectat o serie de activități economice, precum transporturile.
