Materielle Mitarbeiterbeteiligung: Geringe Verbreitung, aber hohe Intensität
Immer wieder wird mit guten Argumenten für eine stärkere Beteiligung der Beschäftigten am Unternehmensgewinn und -kapital plädiert. Bislang spielt Mitarbeiterbeteiligung in deutschen Betrieben aber keine große Rolle. Knapp zehn Prozent der Betriebe beteiligen ihre Mitarbeiter am Gewinn und nur zwei Prozent am Kapital. In diesen Betrieben ist allerdings der Anteil der Mitarbeiter, die von dem Beteiligungsangebot Gebrauch machen, relativ hoch. Vor allem qualifizierte Arbeitnehmer profitieren von Beteiligungsmodellen. Geringqualifizierte, Arbeiter aus dem gewerblichen Bereich und Niedrigverdiener werden seltener einbezogen. Ebenso werden Mitarbeiter in kleinen Betrieben seltener an Gewinn und Kapital beteiligt als solche in großen Unternehmen. Staatliche Interventionen zur Förderung der Mitarbeiterbeteiligung können zwar ihre Verbreitung erhöhen, sollten aber das Prinzip der Freiwilligkeit beachten. Positive Effekte der Mitarbeiterbeteiligung auf Beschäftigung und Wachstum in den Betrieben sind auch nur zu erwarten, wenn die Rahmenbedingungen stimmen - z.B. in Gestalt einer partnerschaftlichen Unternehmenskultur.
