Das Bruttosozialprodukt in der Mongolei ging in den letzten vier Jahren zwischen 1989 und 1993 zurück. Die kumulative Einbuße des nationalen Einkommens beträgt 20%, der reale Privatkonsum pro Einwohner ging um ein Drittel zurück und die Realinvestitionen um zwei Drittel. Die Inflationsgeschwindigkeit erhöhte sich und erreichte im Jahr 1993 300%, die Exporte und Importe fielen um mehr als die Hälfte zwischen 1990 und 1993. Diesen Wandel kann man hauptsächlich auf innere Unruhen in der Mongolei zurückführen und vor allem auf den Wegfall der sowjetischen Unterstützung. Wenn man makroökonomische Stabilität erreichen möchte, ist vor allem die Finanz- und Geldpolitik gefordert.
