MOVEMENT OF MILK IN THE UNITED STATES AND ITS IMPLICATIONS TO THE SPREAD AND CONTROL OF FOOD-AND-MOUTH DISEASE
Given that infected milk may be involved in the spread of FMD and that it may prove to be a serious obstacle to FMD control this study has the following objectives: (1) give a global picture of the production and marketing system of fluid and other milk products in the United States. The main pathways of milk movement will described. (2) Indicate the major risks of FMD spread associated with the movement of dairy products. (3) Suggest recommendation for minimizing both the risk of spread and the impact of controls on the dairy industry.
