O movimento de titularização de activos em Portugal (Asset Securitization in Portugal)

A titularização de activos como meio alternativo de financiamento tem vindo a assumir importância crescente. A sua importância manifesta-se não apenas no sector financeiro, mas também nos restantes sectores da actividade económica e reflecte-se num número e volume crescentes de operações realizadas nos mercados internacionais.O presente estudo pretendeu, por um lado, clarificar o conceito de titularização de activos, enquadrando-o nos diferentes meios de financiamento ao alcance das empresas, descrever a estrutura desta operação de financiamento e apresentar a evolução do mercado português de titularização de activos. Procurou-se depois identificar as motivações que sustentam a opção por este tipo de financiamento estruturado no sector empresarial português.Como se demonstra no estudo clínico efectuado, as motivações que mais fortemente determinam esta opção são a obtenção de liquidez, a diversificação das fontes de financiamento e a redução do custo do capital. Outras motivações, como a mitigação dos impactos do quadro legal e de supervisão e a gestão do risco, revelaram-se igualmente determinantes.Asset securitization as an alternative source of funding has assumed increasing importance. Its importance is manifested not only in the financial industry, but also in other industries and is reflected in a growing number (and volume) of transactions in international markets.The present study aims to clarify the concept of asset securitization, describe how is the transaction structured, and present the evolution of the Portuguese securitization market. Then we identify the economic motivations underlying the choice of asset securitization by Portuguese sponsors.As shown in the clinical study conducted, the reasons that most strongly determine the choice of asset securitization transaction are: (i) source of liquidity and funding diversification; and (iii) reduction of funding costs.
