OHS Harmonisation : Delivering a More Consistent (and Effective and Efficient) Regulatory Experience

OHS harmonisation requires more than just uniform laws; it also requires that those laws are administered and enforced consistently across jurisdictions. This article examines the suite of reforms designed to deliver that consistent regulatory experience (known as the ‘Regulators Harmonisation Project’). The examination demonstrates that good progress has been made, and that the suite of regulator reforms has the potential not only to make OHS regulation more consistent across jurisdictions, but also more effective and efficient. However, the examination also reveals that there are a number of emerging concerns about the accountability and transparency of the process and the extent to which it is integrated with other relevant regulatory institutions, tools and processes
