Once Again on Concepts of Socialism
V. Popov's article must be hailed. Not only because one should not go from one extreme to the other, from the "all-powerful state" to the "infallible market," but also because the time has come to reflect on the meaning of the word "socialism." There are very broad possibilities here. After all, even Hitler called his party national socialist. Entirely moderate reform parties in France and Spain called themselves socialist until recently. And it is very unfortunate that no one can or should forget that Stalin's totalitarian dictatorship represented itself as a triumph of the socialist idea. Moreover, even some of today's prominent scholars think this way, for example, Janos Kornai, who even in his recent book called the Stalinist system "classical socialism."
