Organizing Economics in Competition Law Enforcement : Varying Solutions, Constant Challenges
The growing practical relevance of the ?more economic approach’ goes along with several challenges concerning the appropriate organization of economists and economic analysis in competition law enforcement. The article, which corresponds to the keynote speech held by the author on the Annual Conference 2009 of the Association of Competition Economics (ACE) in Berlin, discusses some of the most relevant issues in this context, in particular the question of how to organize economists within a competition authority. The article provides arguments which seem to militate for the conclusion that the development and implementation of agreed best practices and standards of generating and submitting economic evidence seem to be more important for the success of the ?more economic approach’ than the quest for any supposedly ideal internal architecture of competition authorities
