'Parallel Imports : A Gateway to Access to Knowledge' - In the View of the Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2010

The aim and objective of this paper is to look at the need of bringing in a policy shift under the present Copyright law in India to accommodate the concept of Parallel Imports, with a view to facilitate the right to access to knowledge more efficiently. This paper analyzes the role of Parallel Imports in overcoming the barriers raised by the present copyright regimes against the right to access to education. It discusses the right to education envisaged under various International instruments. The researcher tries to look at the difficulties raised by the present copyright regime in attaining the right to access to knowledge in its fullest extent. The researcher proceeds with the hypothesis that the concept of parallel import shall be helpful in opening the pathway of knowledge to a greater section of the population and that the proposed amendment under the Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2010, may be implemented
