Parents' nonstandard work and child wellbeing : a critical review of the existing literature

This paper reviews the literature on the impact of nonstandard parental working hours on children's development. It examines the quality and scope of research, and directions for future study. So far, research has focused on the impact of nonstandard work on children's developmental outcomes, family processes, and other child outcomes, including mental health and behavioral problems, cognitive development, childhood obesity, school engagement, extracurricular activities, sleep patterns, and parental time spent with children and parental monitoring
