Pharma and profits : balancing innovation, medicine, and drug prices

"Despite significant recent progress, there is still one major issue facing the pharmaceutical industry that dwarfs all others -- the price of drugs, which is a unifying factor on both partisan sides in US politics. The pharmaceutical industry shouldn't be surprised by the backlash given that the media is routinely filled with high drug pricing stories: life-saving gene therapies priced at over $2 million per patient, busloads of Americans heading over the border to Canada to get insulin for their diabetes, Pfizer and Moderna justifying billions of dollars in revenues for new COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. This book seeks to answer these and other questions -- is the drug industry filled with profiteers "getting away with murder" or is it an industry made up of companies that invest in a high-risk business called "innovation" that makes modest returns on capital at risk?"
