[eng] Optimal depollution and pollution:. The case of automobile pollution in a big agglomeration. The total cost of pollution is defined as depollution costs plus damage costs of residual pollution. Total cost is a function of depollution level. A simple model is set oui to analyse this function ; and to define the optimal level of depollution. The model is applied to the case of automobile pollution in the city of Lyon. It is concluded that the use of automobiles that would be about three times less polluting than today's automobiles is warranted.
