Prices through the Eyes of the Population
The reform of prices has by virtue of its political and social significance become the subject of wide discussion. And even though the State Committee for Prices has not yet publicized its draft of the reform, the editors of newspapers and journals (>i>LG>/i> is no exception) have been deluged with letters filled with concern and doubts, opinions and suggestions concerning prices in general and the impending reform in particular. Now is as good a time as any to study public opinion. One of the first attempts at such a study was a sociological survey conducted jointly by the social conditions department of >i>Literaturnaia gazeta>/i> [>i>LG>/i>âLiterary Gazette] and the department for long-term social development and forecasting the people's well-being of the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of Scientific-Technological Progress, USSR Academy of Sciences.
