Privatization in Bangladesh : A Study on Different Regimes (1975-2001)

The privatization of state owned enterprises (SOEs) emerged as a prominent feature of industrial restructuring in Bangladesh. Privatization was the part of economic reform program of every government except the socialistic government of Mujib. Mounting losses and persisting inefficiencies during the period of different government fuel the push for privatization of SOEs. However, every government pointed out privatization as a difficult job. It was expanded at a place in the era of last two governments that would be hard to predict 15 years ago. At present days, privatization is important element of Bangladesh government's overall market oriented adjustment strategy. Recently, the creation of Privatization Commission expedites the whole process of privatization. In the continuity of this process, the newly elected government has taken massive privatization drive to have some positive results
