<i> Prodotti socialmente controversi e la comunicazione sociale nell’università. Il progetto "Giovani e Fumo" dell’Università di Verona </i> (di Elena Giaretta) - ABSTRACT: L’affermarsi del cosiddetto marketing concept, nell’elevare la soddisfazione delle aspettative del consumatore al centro delle finalità aziendali, ha generato alcuni paradossi. Paradossi che si traducono nel fatto che, talvolta, la soddisfazione del consumatore può verosimilmente andare a discapito della sua stessa persona. In altri termini, alcuni prodotti, pur gratificando l’utilizzatore nel momento del consumo, possono a distanza di tempo generare effetti dannosi. Una fattispecie particolarmente critica di tale categoria di prodotti è rappresentata dai prodotti socialmente controversi (o prodotti non meritori). Essi sono così definiti per il loro dubitato valore e per l’incerta legittimazione sociale derivanti dalla riconosciuta portata perniciosa o funesta connessa alla loro intrinseca natura. Tuttavia, a fronte degli elevati livelli di rischio, tali prodotti mostrano considerevoli interessi e appaganti qualità attrattive tali da generare accese tensioni sociali. Uno degli esempi più noti è costituito dalle sigarette. Una serie di considerazioni relative agli impatti negativi del tabacco (economici, sanitari, sociali) portano a sostenere l’utilità dell’avvio di iniziative rivolte a scoraggiarne il consumo. Sulla base del convincimento che risultati stabili in termini di riduzione dei consumi non possano che verificarsi attraverso un mutamento culturale piuttosto che con un’azione nella direzione dei divieti, un ruolo centrale viene attribuito alla comunicazione sociale capace di far leva sulla sensibilizzazione, la conoscenza e l’informazione. Al riguardo l’articolo illustra l’esperienza di un progetto pilota avviato presso l’Università di Verona, volto a verificare l’efficacia di una campagna di comunicazione rivolta ai giovani, ovvero verso quel segmento di consumatori maggiormente vulnerabile e maggiormente esposto, secondo l’analisi statistica, al diffondersi delle abitudini di fumo. Più specificamente, si intende valutare la capacità di una campagna, basata su di uno stile di comunicazione volutamente non terroristico, di innalzare il livello di consapevolezza del problema del fumo, di incoraggiare comportamenti e di promuovere un mutamento di atteggiamento.
