Professor Pay Dissatisfaction : A Comparison of Academic Entrepreneurs and Traditional Faculty

As part of an exploratory study into the job satisfaction of academic entrepreneurs, a group of 228 faculty members across diverse academic disciplines was segmented in to two groups: Academic entrepreneurs and traditional professors. Academic entrepreneurs are defined as professors who are also intrapreneurs. ANOVA was used to determine significant statistical differences relative to pay satisfaction between the segments. It was hypothesized that there is no significant difference, which was supported. The traditionally high job satisfaction of professors in general may mitigate the dissatisfaction of academic entrepreneurs relative to their pay. The impact of these findings for academic administrators is discussed
