Projektion des Arbeitskräfteangebots bis 2050: Rückgang und Alterung sind nicht mehr aufzuhalten
Aufgrund der demografischen Entwicklung geht langfristig die Zahl der erwerbsfähigen Menschen zurück und zugleich altert die Bevölkerung spürbar. Den Betrieben werden damit immer weniger und im Durchschnitt deutlich ältere Arbeitskräfte als heute zur Verfügung stehen. Selbst wenn es gelingt, mehr Ältere, Frauen, Ausländer und Ausländerinnen am Erwerbsleben zu beteiligen, müssen sich Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft längerfristig auf ein viel geringeres Arbeitskräftepotenzial einstellen. Auch Zuwanderung kann daran kaum etwas ändern: Bei einer durchschnittlichen jährlichen Nettozuwanderung von 100.000 Personen, steigender Erwerbsbeteiligung und Lebensarbeitszeit wird das Arbeitskräfteangebot im Prognosezeitraum 2008 bis 2050 um insgesamt 12 Mio. Personen sinken.
