Public Policies on Circular Economy : A Review of the Literature
Circular economy (CE) can potentially contribute driving our society towards an ecological transition. An adequate legislative system is considered among the most effective manners to support firms in the adoption of circularity. However, there is little clarity on what are the most effective regulatory measures that can push companies in implementing this concept in a way that can be beneficial for achieving an ecological transition. This is particularly relevant in the context of Europe where these policies are fragmented and not consistent with each other. Moreover, no publication has reviewed the literature on this field. This paper aims at overcoming these issues by performing a systematic literature review. 52 publications have been analyzed with the objective of identifying the legislative measures that scholars consider as relevant in supporting firms in the adoption of CE in a sustainable manner and the gaps in the current regulatory scenario that need further investigation. This methodological approach allows bringing more clarity and coherence among public policies on circularity, and the issue of the fragmentation that characterises them can be overcome
