Purchasing Power Parity Comparisons Across Cities : Methodological Aspects and an Application to the Brazilian Case

This paper presents two alternatives for the construction of indexes for the comparison of prices among different regions simultaneously. Both methodologies are applied to 11 Brazilian metropolitan regions, allowing for a comparative analysis. Besides developing a theoretical discussion, the paper presents and compares two estimates of inter-regional cost of living indexes for those regions in the period 1996-2002
