Realzins, Inflation und makroökonomisches Gleichgewicht Die Frage nach der Verteilung der Wirkung eines anhaltend inflationären Impulses auf Realzins- und Nominalzinsniveau ist in der Geldtheorie ein umstrittenes Thema. Im Rahmen zweier gängiger makroökonomischer Gleichgewichtsansätze läßt sich sowohl die Prognose der Superneutralität des Geldes begründen – der Realzins bleibt in diesem Fall unverändert – als auch die Prognose eines expansiven Wachstumsimpulses – der Realzins sinkt in diesem Fall. Steindl (1985) versuchte in dieser Zeitschrift nachzuweisen, daß beide Standardansätze einer fundamentalen gleichgewichtstheoretischen Prüfung nicht standhalten, weil sie dem walrasianischen Gesetz zu widersprechen scheinen. Demgegenüber zeigt dieser Beitrag, daß beide Standardansätze mit dem Gesetz von Walras vereinbar sind, wenn sie als spezielle Grenzfälle desselben interpretiert werden. Weiter wird Steindls Lösungsvorschlag, der auf dem statischen Pigou-Effekt basiert, als transmissionstheoretisch unhaltbar abgelehnt: Bei perfekter Preisflexibilität gibt es keinen Transmissionsbedarf und daher auch keinen Vermögenseffekt. Statt dessen wird eine Variante des makroökonomischen Systems vorgestellt, die in allgemeiner Weise das walrasianische Gesetz beachtet und die zwei herkömmlichen Resultate als spezielle Grenzfälle mit abdeckt. Im Ergebnis resultiert Superneutralität der Inflation nur dann, wenn es keinen Bestand verzinslicher Staatsschuldtitel gibt. Existiert hingegen ein positiver Bestand an staatlichen Wertpapieren, so verteilt sich der inflationäre Impuls in einen Anstieg des Nominalzinses und in eine Senkung des Realzinses. Dieses Ergebnis ist allerdings seinerseits relativierungsfähig, weil hierbei die Rückwirkungen der realen Inflationssteuer auf die staatliche Budgetdynamik unberücksichtigt bleiben.
