Recent Developments in Styles of Integrated Regulation and Supervision in Selected Jurisdictions

This paper analyses developments which have taken place over the years and contributed to the present structure of regulation in several selected jurisdictions which constitute the focus of this paper. In considering the emergence of conglomerates, a discussion of the form of regulation which existed prior to the growth of conglomerates, along with reasons for deregulation is undertaken. Furthermore, the different deregulatory approaches adopted in various selected jurisdictions will be discussed briefly.This paper also considers how well the Financial Services Authority's statutory objectives address the objectives of financial regulation. Having considered the developments leading to the adoption of a single regulator, not only in the UK, but also in other selected jurisdictions, this paper will primarily focus on the UK's single regulator for financial services
