República Dominicana: un modelo de producción orientado a la exportación. Limitaciones y perspectivas
Desde los años 80 el modelo productivo dominicano se ha ido orientando a la promoción de las exportaciones, así como a la promoción de la inversión extranjera directa (IED), principalmente dirigida a los mercados de exportación. Los resultados del modelo en términos de comercio exterior han sido una mayor apertura comercial y una estructura productiva orientada al exterior con una importante presencia de las zonas francas y los servicios turísticos. En el 2011 las exportaciones de zonas francas (ZF) representaron el 57,2% del total de bienes exportados y los servicios turísticos el 31,4% del total exportado por el país. La dinámica de las exportaciones de las empresas de zonas francas está condicionada por los flujos de IED, la cual tiene también una gran importancia en la inserción internacional del comercio de bienes y servicios. Las tendencias actuales para la región enfatizan un modelo de promoción de las inversiones, independientemente de los mercados de destino de la producción o del origen extranjero o nacional de la inversión.
