Schulabbrecher in Deutschland -eine bildungsstatistische Analyse mit aggregierten und Individualdaten

This study provides a comprehensive report on the group of young people without a secondary school certificate in Germany. Official statistics are used to give an overview over the development of the dropout rate and its regional and school-type specific differences. Dropout rates are highest in Eastern Germany, for non-citizens, male students and students in “Hauptschulen” (lowest form of secondary schools) and “Förderschulen” (schools for students with special educational needs). Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP), this study also shows that the dropout risk increases for non-citizens, students with low-educated parents and students who had been enrolled in a “Hauptschule” before leaving school.
