Silicon Ceilings : Information Technology Equity, the Digital Divide and the Gender Gap Among Information Technology Professionals

This article calls for the revitalization of the legislative, social policy and academic discourse regarding the causes and appropriate remedies for the gender gap among information technology professionals, with two critical differences. First, this article theoretically reframes the issue of women's under-representation among information technology professionals by presenting it as primarily a technology equity issue to be discussed in the policy context of the digital divide discourse - a gendered digital production divide. Second, this article argues for refocusing legislative and educational efforts from more traditional educational approaches to curricular experimentation and technology mentorship initiatives on the junior-high and high school levels
