Small Hydro Resource Mapping in Vietnam
The energy sector management assistance program (ESMAP) is a global knowledge and technical assistance program administered by the World Bank Group (WBG) and supported by 11 bilateral donors. ESMAPs efforts focuses on energy security, energy access, and climate change, and take into account three core services: (i) analytical work, (ii) knowledge clearinghouse, and (iii) operational support to the WB regions for technical assistance work at the country level. Carrying out renewable energy sources (RES) mapping and geospatial analysis at country level helps to scale up the deployment of biomass, small hydropower plant (SHP), solar and wind electricity generation, particularly in countries where one or more of these sources of power are underdeveloped. The ESMAP current contribution for SHP in Vietnam has an overall objective to strengthen ministry of industry and trade (MOITs) capacity for planning of SHP. The report is organized as follows: chapters one and two are the introduction to the project. Chapter three describes the inception mission. In chapter four a preliminary compilation of globally available data is presented. Chapter five consists on the revision of the implementation plan and the final methodology proposal. In this chapter key challenges in the project implementation are acknowledged, which lead to some modifications in the preliminary methodology. Finally, the proposal for the final methodology, milestones, and work plan is presented. In chapter six the main conclusions from the inception report are exposed.
