Social and environmental sustainability of the receiving tourist sector. Consideration and alternatives
Given the multiplicity of benefits that the tourist activity confers to the economy, as a foreing currency generator, tourism is considered by specialists as the fundamental stone for the economic activity but its unexpected and disproportionate practice has contributed to the irreversible deterioration of the natural resources, main assets of this economic activity, threatening non only the future tourist activity but also the well-being of the receiving communities and the planet. The tourism increasing trend imposes the need to focus on methodologies and the conceptual and operational approaches that help release the social and environmental pressure of traditional systems. This work deals with the social, cultural, and environmental sustainability of the tourism as an alternative to the development and practice of ecotourism as well as with planning and execution of this new practice.
