South Korea on the eve of economic reform

South Korea has managed, in a matter of a few decades since the end of the Korean War (1950-1953), to transform itself into one of the world's most dynamic economies. However, the South Korean economy has declined as a result of its excessive dependence on foreign trade. The presidential election in March 1993 in this country brought to power a government which unveiled a programme of large-scale economic reforms. The author looks at these reforms and discusses what Russia can learn from these reforms. (DÜI-Sen)
