Das vorliegende Buch untersucht die regionalen Gegebenheiten in Polen, Rußland (frühere Sowjetunion) und der Ukraine. Die Schwerpunkte der Beiträge werden für die 3 Länder unterschiedlich gesetzt. Während in Rußland die heutige Entwicklung im Vergleich zur früheren UdSSR betrachtet wird, werden für Polen unterschiedliche Aspekte und problemorientierte Informationen in Form von einzelnen Aufsätzen dargestellt. Die westliche Ukraine wird mit Hilfe eines von der IGU-Kommission für Nationale Siedlungssysteme entwickeltes Grundschemas analysiert
