Study to Examine UI Eligibility Among Former TANF Recipients: Evidence from New Jersey.

Examines the extent to which former welfare recipients who find jobs are likely to have monetary eligibility for Unemployment Insurance, how sensitive these rates are to varying eligibility rules, and the extent to which those who lose jobs file UI claims. Finds that potential monetary eligibility rates are higher than shown in studies using data from the 1980s, although considerable numbers still do not have monetary eligibility. While access to the UI system does not seem to be a problem for former TANF recipients, larger numbers of former recipients get disqualified for monetary and nonmonetary reasons than do claimants statewide.
